Properties of Cr4W2MoV High Hardenability Cold Work Die Steel

2026-06-24
Cr4W2MoV is a typical high-alloy tool steel. Based on a high carbon content, it incorporates multiple alloying elements such as chromium (Cr), tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), and vanadium (V), achieving a balanced performance in hardenability, hardenability, wear resistance, and dimensional stability.

The performance characteristics of Cr4W2MoV cold work die steel are as follows:
High hardenability: Suitable for die parts with certain cross-sectional dimensions, achieving a relatively uniform hardened microstructure.
Strong hardenability: High hardness levels can be achieved after heat treatment, meeting the wear resistance requirements of cold work dies.
Good wear resistance: The combined effect of high carbon and various carbide-forming elements improves wear resistance.
Good dimensional stability: Heat treatment deformation is relatively controllable, suitable for precision die manufacturing.

Cr4W2MoV die steel is mainly used in cold work die applications that withstand high loads and wear:

1. Stamping dies
Suitable for medium-to-high strength blanking dies and blanking dies, exhibiting stability under continuous impact conditions.

2. Cold Forging Dies

In the cold forging process of bolts, nuts, etc., these dies can withstand significant localized stress and frictional wear.

3. Cold Extrusion Dies
Suitable for complex stress conditions such as die forming and die die assembly, extending die life.

4. Thread Rolling Dies and Threading Tools
High wear resistance ensures good dimensional stability during thread forming.

5. Blanking and Shearing Dies
Suitable for high-frequency blanking operations, reducing cutting edge wear.
