Working Conditions and Performance Requirements Of Katalor Cold Work Die Steel

2019-05-28
Katalor cold work die steel has a large deformation resistance due to the material being processed during operation, and the working part of the mold is subjected to great pressure, bending force, impact force and friction. Therefore, the reason for the normal scrapping of cold-working dies is generally wear, and there are also premature failures due to fracture, collapse force and deformation.
Cold work die steel has much in common with cutting steel. The mold is required to have high hardness and wear resistance, high bending strength and sufficient toughness to ensure the smooth progress of the stamping process. The difference is that the shape of the mold and the adding process are complicated, and the friction area is large/the possibility of wear is large. So it is difficult to fix it. Therefore, it is required to have a higher wear resistance when the mold is subjected to a large punching force, and a stress is concentrated due to a complicated shape, so that a high toughness is required; a large mold size and a complicated shape require high hardenability, less deformation and tendency to crack. In short, the cold work die steel has higher requirements on hardenability, wear resistance and toughness than the blade steel, but lower or almost no requirement in terms of red hardness (because it is cold formed), so Correspondingly, some steel grades suitable for use as cold work dies have been formed. For example, steels for high wear resistance, micro-deformation cold work molds, and steels for high toughness cold work molds have been developed.
