Mold Steel Description

Mold steel is a kind of steel used to make molds such as cold die and hot forging die. Mold material is the material and technical basis of mold manufacturing. Mold steel is a traditional mold material. Its variety, specification and quality play a decisive role in the performance, service life and manufacturing cycle of the mold. In recent years, the production, production technology, process equipment, quality and variety of mold steel at home and abroad have achieved relatively rapid development. Shanghai Katalor is one of the high-quality production enterprises. The development of mold steel has also promoted the development of industrial products in the direction of advanced, individualized and high value-added. Molds are used in a wide range of applications, and the range of materials used in the manufacture of molds is very wide. The most widely used mold materials are mold steels.

Mold Steel Category

Because the use of molds is very wide, the working conditions of various molds are very different, so the range of materials used for manufacturing molds is very wide, and the most widely used mold materials are mold steels. From general carbon structural steel, carbon tool steel, alloy structural steel, alloy tool steel, spring steel, high speed tool steel, stainless heat resistant steel to maraging steel and powder high speed steel for special molds, Powder high alloy mold steel, etc. Mold steel can be generally divided into three categories: cold work mold steel, hot work mold steel and plastic molding mold steel.
Cold work mould steel
Cold work die steel is mainly used to manufacture molds for press forming workpieces in a cold state. Such as: cold blanking die, cold stamping die, cold drawing die, imprinting die, cold extrusion die, thread pressing die and powder pressing die. Cold work die steels range from a wide range of carbon tool steels, alloy tool steels, high speed tool steels to powder high speed tool steels and powder high alloy die steels. Cold work die steel is vacuum degassed steel with pure internal quality, good machinability, obvious cutting, good hardenability, no quenching due to air-cooled hardening, excellent wear resistance and good toughness. A blanking die for stainless steel and high hardness materials.
Hot work mold steel
Hot work die steel is mainly used to manufacture molds for press working on workpieces at high temperatures. Such as: hot forging die, hot extrusion die, die-casting die, hot upsetting die, etc. Commonly used hot work die steels are: medium and high carbon content alloy mold steels with alloying elements such as Cr, W, Mo, V; special hot work die steels, sometimes made of high alloy austenitic heat resistant die steel.
Plastic mold steel
Due to the wide variety of plastics, the requirements for plastic products vary widely, and various performance requirements are also imposed on the materials used to make plastic molds. Therefore, many industrially developed countries have formed a wide range of plastic mold steel series. Including carbon structural steel, carburized plastic mold steel, pre-hardened plastic mold steel, age-hardening plastic mold steel, corrosion-resistant plastic mold steel, easy-cut plastic mold steel, integral hardened plastic mold steel, martensite Aging steel and plastic mold steel for mirror polishing.
