D2 material is a cold work tool steel under ASTM A681 standard. A681 D2 steel is alloy tool steel. The equivalent of A681 D2 material is GB Cr12MoV. Compared with Cr12MoV steel, D2 tool steel increased Mo, V contents, which has changed the steel casting organization and improved the morphology of austenite dish. Therefore, its strong toughness and abrasion resistance is better than that of Cr12MoV steel, and also improve the service life of the mold. Due to the yield point and the plastic deformation resistance of the steel is higher of Cr12MoV steel, the forging properties and hot molding Cr12MoV steels are slightly older.

Due to the high contents of carbon(1.40-1.60%) and chromium(11.0-13.0%), A681 D2 alloy tool steel has good resistance to abrasion.
A681 D2 alloy tool steel products are supplied in various shapes like hot or cold finished bars, plates, strips, round bars and flats. They are normally fabricated into tools,dies or fixtures.
