Cr12MoV is a high-carbon, high-chromium ledeburitic cold work die steel, belonging to the category of alloy tool steel, and is a widely used die material in the industrial field.
Chemical composition of Cr12MoV steel:
Carbon (C): 1.45%–1.70%
Chromium (Cr): 11.00%–12.50%
Molybdenum (Mo): 0.40%–0.60%
Vanadium (V): 0.15%–0.30%
Silicon (Si) ≤ 0.40%
Manganese (Mn) ≤ 0.40%
Sulfur and phosphorus impurity content ≤ 0.030%
Performance characteristics of Cr12MoV steel:
High hardenability: Workpieces with cross-sectional dimensions up to 400 mm can be fully hardened; oil quenching yields a hardened depth of 200–300 mm.
High wear resistance: Wear resistance is 3–4 times that of ordinary low-alloy tool steels.
Minimal heat treatment deformation: Low volumetric distortion after quenching; comprehensive mechanical properties are far superior to standard Cr12 steel.
Hardness after quenching and tempering reaches 58–64 HRC; annealed hardness is 207–255 HBW.
Applications of Cr12MoV steel:
Primarily used for cold-work dies and tools with large cross-sections, complex shapes, and heavy-duty operating conditions:
Punching dies, trimming dies, cold stamping dies, deep-drawing dies
Thread rolling dies, circular saws, standard gauges
Silicon steel sheet punching dies, cold extrusion dies, and other components requiring high wear resistance
