Applications of 9CrWMn Tool and Mold Steel
The 9CrWMn tool and mold steel under the GB/T 1299 standard is widely used in manufacturing high-precision, complex-shaped cold work dies, gauges, and thermosetting plastic molding dies, owing to its high hardenability, wear resistance, and minimal quenching distortion.
1. Cold Work Die Manufacturing
Blanking and Shearing Dies:
Used for producing deep-drawing dies, blanking dies, and cold-cutting shears, suitable for processing materials such as silicon steel sheets and thin metals.
Cold Extrusion and Forming Dies:
Applied in cold extrusion dies for aluminum parts and spring steel plates, as well as thread rolling dies and thread rolling plates. For example, the hexagonal die inserts for cold heading hexagonal head bolts achieve a 10× lifespan increase after vanadium composite treatment.
Precision Complex Dies:
Manufactures high-wear, complex-shaped punches, matrix dies, and inserts for bending dies, along with cold pressing dies for powder metallurgy and refractory brick forming dies (with a 5-6× longer lifespan compared to Q235 steel).

2. Gauge and Measuring Tool Manufacturing
Precision measuring tools such as drill bushings, gauges, templates, and clamping plates, as well as woodworking tools and low-speed cutting tools (e.g., hand reamers and saw blades).
Advantages: High hardness and wear resistance ensure long-term dimensional stability, while hardenability guarantees uniform hardness in large-sized tools.

3. Special Material Processing Dies
Thermosetting Plastic Molding Dies:
Requires high wear resistance and strength; 9CrWMn steel meets these processing demands.
Spring Steel Plate Forming Dies:
Forming dies for spring steel plates with 0.5%-0.8% carbon content (hardness: 37-42HRC), achieving a service life of up to 220,000 cycles.
Advantages: Corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability reduce die corrosion or thermal fatigue failure.
