Characteristics of 3Cr2Mo Plastic Mold Steel

2025-10-24

3Cr2Mo Plastic Mold Steel is a widely used pre-hardened plastic mold steel with the following core features:
1. Superior Machinability and Dimensional Stability
Pre-hardened Treatment:
Supplied in a pre-hardened state with typical hardness of 28-35HRC, enabling direct machining (e.g., milling, drilling) without additional heat treatment, thus minimizing deformation during processing.
Mirror Polishing Performance:
Achieves surface roughness 1-3 grades lower than that of 45 steel after polishing, making it ideal for molds requiring high surface finish (e.g., household appliance casings, automotive interior components).
Forging and Heat Treatment Process:
Optimizes microstructure through processes such as die forging, spheroidizing annealing, and pre-hardening, ensuring minimal cavity deformation and dimensional variation during machining.
2. High Hardness and Wear Resistance
Post-Quenching and Tempering Performance:
Attains hardness of 28-35HRC after quenching and tempering, with surface hardness reaching up to 65HRC following carburizing and quenching, significantly enhancing wear resistance.
Wear Resistance Mechanism:
Uniformly distributed chromium carbides reduce wear, making it suitable for molds subjected to prolonged friction (e.g., gears, bearing housings).
3. Excellent Thermal Stability and Corrosion Resistance
High-Temperature Performance:
Maintains structural integrity in high-temperature environments (e.g., aerospace engines, industrial furnaces), resisting thermal softening.
Corrosion Resistance:
Suitable for humid or corrosive environments (e.g., molds for chemical equipment), with nitriding treatment further improving surface hardness (up to 1000HV) and corrosion resistance.
