Characteristics of Cr12 Cold Work Die Steel

2025-08-13

Characteristics of Cr12 Cold Work Die Steel:
High carbon and high chromium alloy composition: Cr12 steel is a type of cold work die steel with high carbon (2.00% to 2.30%) and high chromium (11.50% to 13.00%) content. This alloy composition endows it with excellent hardenability and high hardness after quenching.
Superior wear resistance: Due to the addition of chromium, the wear resistance of Cr12 steel is significantly enhanced, enabling it to withstand substantial friction and wear. It is suitable for manufacturing molds and tools that require high wear resistance.
Minimal quenching distortion: Compared to some other steels, Cr12 steel exhibits relatively small deformation during the quenching process, which is beneficial for ensuring post-processing accuracy and dimensional stability.
Poor impact toughness: Despite its many advantages, Cr12 steel has relatively poor impact toughness, as well as inferior thermal conductivity and high-temperature plasticity. Therefore, attention must be paid to the heating and forging processes during hot working to avoid issues such as cracking.
