Chemical Composition: H13 steel contains a certain amount of carbon to increase its hardness and wear resistance. At the same time, it also incorporates elements such as chromium and molybdenum to enhance its corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. Some grades of H13 steel also meet the composition standards for chromium-molybdenum-vanadium.
Physical Properties:
Quenchability: H13 steel possesses excellent quenchability, meaning it can be uniformly hardened across its entire cross-section.
Toughness: H13 steel exhibits high toughness, capable of resisting impact and fracture.
Thermal Crack Resistance: H13 steel can resist thermal cracks that occur at high temperatures.
Hardness: The hardness of H13 steel is approximately 40-44 HRC. After quenching and nitriding heat treatment, its hardness can reach 50-54 HRC. Additionally, after gas soft nitriding, the surface hardness of H13 can reach 750 HV, extending its service life. However, it should be noted that the higher the carbon content in H13, the higher its hardness, but the corresponding toughness will decrease.
Wear Resistance: The wear resistance of H13 steel primarily depends on its chemical composition and heat treatment process. Through appropriate heat treatment, its hardness can exceed HRC50, resulting in excellent wear resistance. Furthermore, the surface quality of H13 steel also affects its wear resistance; the smaller the surface roughness, the better the wear resistance.
Application Scenarios of ASTM A681 H13 Hot Work Mould Steel
Due to its exceptional properties, H13 steel is widely used in the manufacture of various hot work dies. Here are some typical application scenarios:
Forging Dies: The high toughness and thermal crack resistance of H13 steel make it an ideal material for manufacturing forging dies.
Hot Extrusion Dies: During the hot extrusion process, dies need to withstand high temperatures and pressures, and H13 steel meets these requirements, making it widely used in the manufacture of hot extrusion dies.
Die Casting Dies: H13 steel is also commonly used to manufacture die casting dies for alloys such as copper and aluminum. Its wear resistance and high-temperature strength ensure the long-term stable operation of the dies.
Other Application Scenarios: Besides the above applications, H13 steel is also used to manufacture aluminum, magnesium, and zinc die casting dies, aluminum and brass extrusion dies, liners, mandrels, pressure pads, followers, backing plates, die shells, die supports, etc. Additionally, it can be used to produce hot stamping and press-forging dies, split hot upset dies, clamping jaw dies, hot punching, piercing, and trimming tools, as well as plastic molds, hot-working shear blades, and hot forging dies.
